Discover the portrait of Jean Joly, winemaker owner of Vignoble du Marathonien.

Jean is actively involved in Quebec’s wine industry, but the project of which he is the proudest is his family’s VIGNOBLE DU MARATHONIEN.

VIGNOBLE DU MARATHONIEN: It’s all in the family!

Jean’s wife, Lina, co-owns the vineyard with him. The couple is fortunate in that all four of their children – Jean-Luc, Patrice, Simon and Marie-Line – share their passion for winemaking and are enthusiastic contributors to the vineyard’s success. In fact, the second generation plays an important part in the operation. Jean and Lina are very pleased to be able to work side by side with them. For more than a decade, the Joly family has also had the help of Thibault, a loyal employee who is essential to the team.

En plus de porter le chapeau de vigneron, Jean porte également celui de grand-papa, un rôle qu’il affectionne particulièrement. Et qui sait, peut-être que les petits-enfants suivront les traces de leurs grands-parents!

In a family business, every member has a clear role. Jean oversees the vineyard and general administration. He is also very active in the industry more broadly. Over the last few years, his work has included implementing the protected geographical indication (PGI) designation for Quebec wines and ice wines. Line is always doing something to enhance the grounds. In addition to being in charge of wine labelling and packaging, she interacts with clients and prepares orders for the SAQ. Jean-Luc excels at client relations, attending various trade shows and fairs such as the Fête des vendanges Magog-Orford. Patrice, meticulous by nature, is happiest hard at work in the fields. Simon enjoys assisting with the winemaking process, while Marie-Line, an accountant by trade, is a huge help to her father in the office. As for Thibault, he takes the lead on the winegrowing and winemaking.

Jean is not only the vintner but also a proud grandfather. And who knows: maybe the third generation will follow in the family footsteps, too!
