Alfonso Gagliano
Vignoble Gagliano | Dunham
Alfonso Gagliano owns VIGNOBLE GAGLIANO, located in Dunham in the Eastern Townships.
Originally from Sicily, Alfonso was making his own wine long before he acquired the winery in 2008. He started in the 1970s with grapes from the Jean-Talon Market. These days, GAGLIANO VINEYARDS has some 50,000 vines and produces 13 types of wine: reds, whites, rosés, fortified and ice wines.
VIGNOBLE GAGLIANO has received many awards over the years for its high-quality products. It will also soon be able to offer organically grown wines, certified by Ecocert Canada. The three-year certification process began in 2018, making the vineyard’s 2021 vintages the first to be certified organic.
Growing organic means replacing chemical products with eco-friendly alternatives. « LWinegrowers are particularly vulnerable to climate change, » explains Alfonso. « For our family, some of whom already drive electric cars, going organic was the obvious choice ».
