The School of the 3rd Range: At the School of the Vine
In 2003, the first grapevines and apple trees were planted on the hillside of the farm in Saint-Joachim-de-Shefford, in the Eastern Townships. The project by Robert Brien and Nancy Gauthier began with a particular interest in one-room schoolhouses. With the help of local artisans, the 3rd Range school was rebuilt, complete with its bell, the teacher’s desk, and the students’ desks, just as it was 60 years ago. But today, it is where the grapes, apples, pears, plums, and other fruits grown on the estate are processed.
The names of the wines, ciders, and perries are also inspired by the school theme: Le Bulletin (a sparkling white, of course), La Relâche (a dry red), and La Marelle (a white wine).
