Le Cep d’Argent : A Pioneer of the Traditional Method in Quebec!
Brothers François and Jean-Paul Scieur were quite literally born among the bubbles! Originally from the village of Étoges in Champagne-Ardenne, they brought their expertise to Quebec, where they founded Le Cep d’Argent vineyard in 1985.
Located in Magog, in the Eastern Townships wine region, the vineyard specializes in sparkling wines with its Sélection range, but also produces still wines, a fortified wine, an ice wine, and a kir-style aperitif wine.
Over the past decades, the winemakers have planted some 60,000 vines—all hybrids: Seyval Blanc, Vidal, Frontenac Blanc and Frontenac Gris for whites, and Frontenac Noir, Maréchal Foch, Saint-Croix, and Seyval Noir for reds. Today, they produce 125,000 bottles per year, while also offering a wide range of experiences at the vineyard. Among them: a sabering activity out among the vines, and a self-guided tour showcasing the various stages of sparkling wine production as well as the history of the Scieur family.
